Though the Hutchinson Building was renovated in 1979 to add air conditioning, the building would be closed five years later. Shortly after closure, a bid from St. John’s Hospital called for the building to be re-used, and a later proposal from the Quaker Valley School District planned to use it as a police dispatching station, but all fell through and the building quickly deteriorated. The above photo shows state officials inspecting a collapsed ceiling in 1993. After the campus was purchased in 1998 by Ralph Stroyne, the Hutchinson Building was to be saved and converted to real estate offices, but an appraisal showed the building to be virtually worthless. Like all other buildings on the property except for the Cammarata Building, it met the wrecking ball in 2006.
